About Us

“ASHA” was founded on 21st June 1988 as a rural based registered developmental organization on the principle of autonomous, apolitical, secular, non-sectarian, non-profit making with Inter disciplinary nature which came into existence after gaining 15 years of community development experiences beginning from 1973. While working among the tribal, rural and other marginal communities, we realized their isolation from main stream of development, suffering from acute hunger, ill health, malnutrition, education, incomes and their deprivation, exclusion and vulnerable and voiceless like amidst of plenty of natural resources around them. The communities were unorganized and unable to initiate any action on the issues concerned and affecting them. The misery and injustice of women, children, adolescents has developed our commitment to initiate actions in a an oorganised and planned manner that inspired us to found an organization spear headed by Rghunath one of the founding members. “ASHA” means “The Hope”. It has emerged for the restoration of new hopes in the hearts of less privileged millions who have been victims of the existing socio - economic, cultural, environmental, political conditions of the contemporary society. “ASHA” is The Hope, both for the hopeless and have-nots.
